Something to ponder when considering the task Barack Obama has been given:
"Remember Washington's greatest trials came before he was President; so it may be said that Lincoln is the only President who carried so grave a responsibility as the man now in the White house. Please bear in mind the next time you curse him for something you feel you could do better..."
